How soccer became popular among the universities of Canada

1.Goal- To make local soccer fans aware about how much of an impact that soccer have on universities. And the organizations that control soccer projects in Canada.

2.Audience – To all the local soccer fans who are passionate about university soccer tournaments..

Soccer is the most popular sport in Canada in terms of participation. In 2006, over 2.6 million people played soccer in Canada, according to FIFA records. Major League Soccer, the Canadian Premier League, and the United Soccer League are the three professional soccer leagues in Canada. There are numerous semi-professional and amateur soccer leagues in Canada.

However, when it comes to the universities playing soccer in Canada , There are two major regulating bodies in post-secondary soccer. The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is the regulating body for Canada’s colleges and smaller universities, while U Sports is the governing body for the majority of degree-granting universities. The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is the collegiate soccer’s national governing body in Canada. Currently, the CCAA has 94 member institutions, including colleges, universities, and technical institutes, spread throughout eight provinces and overseen by five member conferences.

The CCAA allows student athletes to combine their love of sports with their pursuit of higher education at a CCAA institution. Participating in collegiate athletics has numerous advantages for students, and the CCAA National Championships and Awards are the pinnacle of each athletic season and the goal of every student athlete. The athletic landscape of the CCAA includes;

  1. Being a part of Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development program, which provides athletes with opportunities to compete at the provincial, national, and international levels.
  2. Professionally organized and hosted competitive leagues, tournaments, and championships by the participating institutions and their respective Conferences.
  3. Gaining firsthand knowledge of Canada’s world-class coach development system.
  4. Many of the premier competition and training facilities are also home to national team training.
  5. Outstanding student-athletes get national, regional, and local awards and recognition for their athletic and academic achievements.

 When Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) rebranded as U SPORTS in October of 2016, university sport in Canada underwent a substantial transition. The organization’s change to a bilingual name was followed by an engagement-first social media attitude, an engaging new website that promotes student-athletes and their stories, and a focus on integrating 56 colleges and four regional conferences under a national brand.
